Companies to switch off office equipment for Earth Hour

Businesses across the world have been encouraged to switch off their office equipment as part of Earth Hour. On Saturday March 28th, companies and consumers across the world will turn off their electrical appliances in order to urge global leaders to go further in tackling climate change. Colin Butfield, head of campaigns at the World Wildlife Fund, commented: "A billion people across the globe turning off their lights sends a loud and clear message to politicians."

Businesses whose premises will be empty on the day have been encouraged to measure how much energy will be saved if items such as computers and photocopiers are switched off over the weekend. Office supplies manufacturer Kyocera Mita, which specialises in devices such as multi-function printers, is among the companies to sign up to Earth Hour.

The firm's green credentials have again been recognised in this year's MicroScope ACE Awards, as it has been shortlisted for the Environmental Company of the Year award for the second year in a row.
