High-end printers 'cheaper in the long run'
Selecting a high-quality, efficient printer could offer significant long-term savings for businesses, it has been claimed. According to Bob Crum, director of US operations for Printer.com, companies which look to cut costs in the short term by opting for a less expensive model could be making a false economy. "The ownership costs of these printers are generally higher because of more expensive toner replacement costs," he explained.
Printer.com recently carried out a survey to find the most cost-efficient printers for small businesses and found that firms could save as much as $10,000 (£7,000) over five years depending on their choice of model. The website noted that overall operational costs could be dramatically reduced in the long run by opting for more expensive printers, as the initial price is offset by cheaper ink and toner charges.
Its findings come after Computer Weekly suggested that UK businesses should opt for multifunction printers to help save money and ensure the efficient use of office stationery.
The devices are a good way to reduce the amount of paper used in printing and drive down overall costs, the publication said.
