Businesses urged to buy green office supplies
Businesses have been urged to do their bit for the environment by purchasing environmentally-friendly office supplies.
According to Dr Michael Gell of Xanfeon, the introduction of new laws and green targets over the next few years could make it prudent for companies to adopt eco-friendly practices straight away, reports ClimateChangeCorp.
Indeed, he said 2009 could be a "pivotal year" for companies who have embraced carbon reduction initiatives, as the UK has committed to cutting emissions by 80 per cent by 2050. Dr Gell suggested a number of ways in which businesses can help the environment, such as purchasing stationery which is made of recycled materials.
In addition, he suggested that this approach be extended to areas such as ink cartridges. "By purchasing remanufactured laser printer cartridges, there is the potential to reduce embodied emissions in the product by up to about 60 per cent," Dr Gell commented.
He added that this could also result in companies saving money in the long run. This comes shortly after the Waste and Resources Action Programme revealed that the price of paper is much lower than it was this time last year.
