Energy-efficient appliances hailed by EST

Businesses have been encouraged to purchase more energy-efficient office machines where possible.

According to the Energy Saving Trust (EST), buying an A-rated electronic appliance such as an office printer could lead to considerable savings being made. Indeed, figures from the organisation show that an energy-saving inkjet printer would save businesses about a third of the electricity they would use on standard models over the course of a year.

Spokesperson Adrian Arnold stated that this could therefore cut hundreds or thousands of pounds off their utility payments.  He commented: "If everyone in the UK looked for the most energy-efficient rated product you would actually take a billion pounds out of the nation's domestic energy bill."

Mr Arnold added that the amount of energy saved would be enough to power about 780,000 homes in the UK for up to a year.

Figures produced by the EST show that an energy-saving printer uses less than 22W when it is switched on, while other models consume about 30W.
